Conference Stories

The Girls for a Change conference has been an annual event since 2005. Over 600 girls have attended the conference, from towns all over Montana!

Here’s what they had to say about the conference:

  • “The conference opened my eyes to have faith and trust in the things I want.” –2009 Attendee
  • “The conference made me realize how I can take control of my life and change the world.” –2008 Attendee
  • “The conference was so uplifting and informative. I had such a great time and had a smile on my face the entire day.” –2007 Attendee
  • “It’s great that the whole thing is done by girls.  I was really inspired by all the workshops and they were fun because I wasn’t thinking about what people thought of me.” –2006 Attendee

2009 Conference

149 girls from 24 different Montana communities attended the 2009 “Courage to Climb” conference.

  • 94% of participants said the workshops were “good” or “very good.”
  • 98% said the keynote speaker was “good’ or “very good”
  • 73% said they know more about how to keep themselves healthy
  • 83% said they feel more confident in their own personal strengths
  • 81% said they feel more confident about their future

The 2009 theme was “Courage to Climb.” We asked girls what “courage” means to them. Here’s what they had to say:

  • “Courage is the ability to do what’s right instead of what’s acceptable.”
  • “Courage isn’t a lack of fear. It’s overcoming your fears to do what’s right for you and for others! “
  • “Courage is to step from beyond your reaches to experience something new and worth while.”
  • “Courage is understanding people who are different than you.”
  • “Courage is keeping together after all that life throws you.”
  • “Courage is being strong enough to say YES.”
  • “Courage is doing what scares you most.”

The theme for 2010 is “Live Out Loud.” Let us know what living out loud means to you!
