The 2013 ‘Operation Innovation’ Girls for a Change conference was an amazing event! 140 girls from 32 Montana communities participated in workshops focused on topics ranging from financial planning to Bollywood dancing! For the first time Girls for a Change hosted Teen Think Tanks. These workshops offered the girls opportunities to discuss issues that were important to them in small groups with local women from all different backgrounds. These sessions were centered around honoring your strengths, innovation and creativity, and your dreams and future. These think tanks allowed girls to discover the power of their own innovation!
We were thrilled to announce that our conference keynote for 2013 was the Founder and Owner of Red Ants Pants, Sarah Calhoun. Red Ants Pants is the first company dedicated to making work pants for women who ranch, clear trails and work on fire lines. Sarah Calhoun was among entrepreneurs invited to the White House to attend the Business Leaders’ Forum on Jobs and Economic Competitiveness, named the 2012 Women in Business Champion for Montana and selected as the National Women in Business Champion. Her extraordinary journey from small town farm girl to entrepreneur and her unwavering commitment to enhancing women’s lives is certain to excite all Montana girls.
We were also very proud to have Elke Govertsen, ownder of mamalode magazine in Missoula as our Opening Keynote for 2013. Elke is an entrepreneur and mom.
