I’m Sarah Kinsey and I joined Girls For A Change two years ago hoping to empower girls and women. Little did I know, it was I who would become the empowered one. The girls I met on the core committee were so confident and welcoming, that I aspired to be like them. Throughout that first year, my self-confidence grew tremendously. I learned to make decisions based on who I wanted to become, not who other people wanted me to be. I learned to speak up for myself and that what I have to say is valuable. And, best of all, I learned how to reach out to others, the way the Girls For A Change members reached out to me. I learned to respect and cherish everyone for the unique individual that they are. The confidence I gained in Girls For A Change has translated into tangible benefits within my life. Recently, I went to Missoula to attend a scholarship competition, which included an interview. Because of all the practice I had interacting with the women on the core committee, I was barely nervous. My interview went really well and I ended up getting the scholarship! As of now, I plan to attend the University of Montana in Missoula and major in pre-med. If, however, I decide to change this plan at any point, I am confident that it will be because it is reflective of me, and who I desire to become. Thank you GFAC! I love you all and I will miss you next year!
