| Newborn | Feed child breast milk or iron-fortified formula; do not feed juice, water, pop, etc. |
| 4 – 6 Months | Provide child with infant cereal (choices are rice, oat or barley) |
| 5 – 7 Months | Feed vegetables and fruits either strained or blended, and fruit juice |
| 6 – 8 Months | Can eat cottage cheese, yogurt, strained beans, strained meat and egg yolk |
| 7 – 9 Months | Feed other infant cereals such as wheat or mixed grains, mashed vegetables and fruits, and mild cheese |
| 8 – 9 Months | Give finger foods such as toast squares, cooked vegetables, peeled soft fruit wedges or slices, small tender pieces of meat; can drink formula or juice from cup with help |
| 10 – 12 Months | Eats food from family table such as vegetables and fruits, cereal, breast milk, whole eggs, beans, fish, chicke, and cheese |
| 1 Year | Can drink whole milk |
Do not give sweeteners such as honey or corn syrups, or any food that contains these sweeteners (including cereals and graham crackers), to infants. They may contain spores that can cause infant botulism, a food poisoning which can lead to death.
