Many parents worry about raising their children in today’s world. They report feeling dissatisfied with family life and list lack of time and negative influences of peers and media as conditions that inhibit their ability to protect their children. Parents are exploring ways to regain control of their family lives.
Here are some ideas if you feel short of time:
- Turn off the TV at least one day a week. In addition to exposing children to material which is more appropriate for adults than for children, TV also allows for little family interaction.
- Replace TV with family activities. Require all family members to participate.
- All families encounter difficulties along the way. Acknowledge family problems, accept them, talk about them, and utilize them as a learning experience for the children.
- Practice being optimistic about life. Teach children to be optimistic too.
- Love your children by holding them accountable for their actions.
- Teach forgiveness and compassion.
- Promote happiness. Help your children find some joy in each day.
