Be sure your children are adequately supervised at all times, especially during the summer months.
- Let children know who is picking them up from activities, when, and where. Be sure they wait at a place where adults are and be on time to pick them up.
- If someone your children does not know must pick them up, use a family code so they can identify the person. Two unrelated words work best.
- If your child is in the care of an older child, be sure the baby-sitter knows all the rules. Be sure your baby-sitter is old enough to protect your children.
- Do not leave children home alone. If you must, tell them not to answer the phone or the door while you are gone.
- Check on your children on a regular basis during the day.
- Know where they are and who they are with at all times.
