Parents often ask teachers, “How can I help my child with reading?” The answer might surprise you. You can help at home even before your child is ready for school. Experts studied a group of school-age children who were good readers. The good readers had several things in common when they were of preschool age. They had family members whom:
- Read books, magazines and newspapers
- Looked at books and magazines with them, and who READ TO THEM
- Talked to them about what was happening around them
- Pointed out words in books and other media
- Took the time to teach them new words
