The Parent Liaisons through Thrive in partnership with the Bozeman and Belgrade schools, are putting on a free course at the elementary schools for kindergarten and middle school parents. These classes have been called Powerplay, now called Thriving Kinders and Thriving Sixth Graders, provide an outlet for parents to talk about these transitions
with other parents and give some ideas about navigating them. When I spoke with kinder parents, I realized once again, as I had when I dropped my daughter off at college, that as a
parent these transition times feel the same regardless of the age. The kinder and middle school parents felt worried, happy, sad and excited for this next stage all at the same time. Our hopes and our dreams for our children are brought to the forefront at these times.
Sit back, feel the emotion, and be there with your child in the way that they need you. If you pay attention they will give you all the clues you need to navigate these transition times with
them. They will let you know when you need to provide more support or hang back;
if you are unsure ask them. Savor these moments, cry and or rejoice with family
and friends in your new found freedom and your child’s new independence. If you
need more support call or email us at the Parent Place, 587-3840 or
parentplace@allthrive.org, we know how it feels.
